Accomplishments:
Brendan - despite his small size, has become a great high school basketball player. He has worked at ball-handling and quickness for many years in off-season workouts - and this past winter, lost his junior year to season-ending shoulder surgery to repair torn labrum. He played on NK Jazz AAU this summer in Orlando and Ohio Showcase and last night - scored 17 of Highlands 20 second half points in a 23 point night against a very talented Brossart team. Highlands lost the game by 11 points, but Brendan drained a 3 in the 4th quarter to pull Birds to within 3 points and made the game a wonderfully competitive game. No one has worked harder or spent more time in the gym then this small, dynamic point guard. Brendan would much rather penetrate, handle & distribute the basketball to other scorers, but this season he must shoot and initiate scoring with every opportunity. He did that last night in the Highlands Brossart game. "BB" as they call him, is a good basketball player, but an even better spirit and person. BB is a friend to everyone. I proudly nominate Brendan Buten, his work ethic, quickness and wonderful talents.
